Bayan Macaroni Pie

The recipe for Bajan Macaroni Pie comes directly from Barbados. There the Bajan Macaroni Pie is often served as a side dish e.g. with chicken goulash. Then the bayan macaroni pie is not so strongly seasoned. However, if it is served as a main course, it can be seasoned more strongly. Cook the macaroni until firm to the bit and pour into a sieve. In the pot of the noodles let out margarine. Finely dice the onion and green pepper and sauté in the margarine. Add the macaroni and mix into the pepper cubes. Grate the cheddar finely and mix approx. 150 g with the macaroni. Melt at low temperature while stirring. Stir the ketchup and mustard into the macaroni. Season with a few drops of Hot Pepper Sauce and a little salt. If you don't have hot pepper sauce in the house, you can also use white pepper. Cut the cooked ham into cubes and mix with the macaroni. Preheat oven to 175°. Pour the Bajan Macaroni Pie into a baking dish. Mix the remaining cheddar with breadcrumbs and sprinkle over the casserole. Bajan Macaroni Pie on the middle shelf for about 15 minutes until the casserole is golden brown.
