Turmeric Powder

Turmeric Powder

Turmeric powder is a very mild spice, which is used similarly to saffron for yellowing dishes. In Indian cuisine, but also for paella and curry sauces, either saffron or turmeric is used. Turmeric has the advantage that it is much cheaper than the expensive saffron. If you don't know turmeric and try to colour curry sauce yellow with curry, you will usually only get a relatively bitter sauce, because curry powder is only used for seasoning and the yellow colour is achieved with turmeric.
