Sugar occurs in nature in various forms. Simple white household sugar is obtained from sugar beets. More easily soluble is the finely ground household sugar, which is used as icing sugar. However, there is also fine granulated sugar, which is often used, for example, in the production of ice cream, as it dissolves more easily than normal household sugar. Also easily soluble is glucose or lactose. Other types of sugar are fructose, invert sugar and sucrose. The brown cane sugar, palm sugar or malt sugar are often used for tea, mixed drinks or savoury cakes. If you do not want to use sugar, you can also sweeten your food and drinks with honey or sugar substitutes. Sweeteners are available in easily dosed small tablets or in liquid form.
