Organic Lemon

Organic Lemon

Organic lemon (English organic lemon, French lemon) citron organique, ital. limone organico, span. limón orgánico) in all recipes in which I use the peel for seasoning. Since the peel of the organic lemon is untreated, i.e. not sprayed with toxic pesticides, you can use the peel finely grated in cakes or desserts, or cut into strips to decorate e.g. cakes. Even if you want to cook a piece of lemon zest in mulled wine or for baked fruit, you should preferably use the zest of an organic lemon. But here, too, you should rinse the lemon well under running water and rub it dry beforehand, as you do with all other fruits and vegetables. Organic lemon is now available not only in organic shops or on the weekly market, but also in the vegetable departments of well-stocked supermarkets. You can buy organic lemon individually loose or packed into several in small nets. It should be noted that lemons that are called "untreated" do not necessarily have to be organic lemons. Untreated lemons may have been sprayed with pesticides, but are not treated with preservatives after harvesting and provided with the usual wax layer. If you are unsure, you should ask your vegetable dealer if it is an organic lemon or "only" an untreated lemon.
