Crushed ice is nothing but crushed ice cubes. If you don't have a special electric machine or a device with hand crank, you can of course crush the ice cubes by hand. To do this, place a bag of ice cubes on a towel, cover it with the towel and briefly skin the ice cubes several times with a hammer or meat beater (flat side). You can also pour ice cubes from an ice cube maker into freezer bags and crush them by hand. Crushed ice is often used as an ingredient for long drinks. To avoid swallowing the small pieces of ice, the long drinks with crushed ice are served with a straw. Crushed ice can also be used as a binding agent, e.g. for meat loaf / Leberkäse, by kneading crushed ice under the chopping mass.
