Cayenne pepper belongs to the nightshade family. Cayenne pepper originally comes from Latin America. Spanish sailors then brought it to Europe as Spanish pepper. Cayenne pepper is obtained from the dried and ground pods of the Cayenne chili variety. The taste of cayenne pepper is delicately smoky and slightly bitter with great pungency. This comes from the substance capsaicin contained in the pods. Cayenne pepper can be used universally as a spice in the kitchen.
